Flow Line for Mechanized Assembly and Robotic Welding of Micropanels

The flow line is intended for micropanels (small-sized panels) of shipboard hull structures. The assembly of micropanels is a mechanized one. It is carried out by manipulator for framing installation and tack welding. The welding is a robotic one. It is carried out by gantry welding robot.

The following operations are carried out:

  • Mechanized assembly and tack welding of framing;

  • Laser scanning along with photogram metering of envelope;

  • Computer-aided processing of results and generation of control program for robot;

  • Robotic welding of micropanels.

Complex of equipment includes the following:

  • The gantry for mechanized installation and tack welding of up to 0.5 m high stiffening members on micropanels’ plate blankets along marking line;

  • The gantry for laser scanning, photogram metering and robotic welding on of stiffening member of the micropanels;

  • A pallet with a stiffening members set;

  • Assembly bearing plate for installation of stiffening members and welding of micropanels;

  • Railways.

The flow line consists of two equal worth assembly positions. Both assembly of a micropanel and its robotic welding can be performed on each of them. Micropanel remains stationary in the process of manufacturing. The line is attended by two operators.

 Line performances:
  Micropanel dimensions, m  Up to 12 х 3.2 х 0.5
  Weight, t  Up to 5
  Height of installed framing, m  Up to 0.5
 Thickness of plate blanket sheets, mm    From 5 to 30

  • The application of micropanels manufacturing line makes it possible to:

    Introduce manless technology for manufacturing of wide assortment of ship hull panels up to 3.2 x 12 m in size;

    Get welding joints of guaranteed quality level;

    Increase 1.5–2 fold rate of welded metal structures manufacturing due to reduction of preparatory-conclusive time of welding process performance;

    Reduce 1.2–1.3 fold consumption of welding materials due to metered consumption of the latter;

    Reduce power consumption for flattening operations.

Awards

After considering the results of the competition “The best innovative project and the best research and engineering pilot project of the year” within the frames of the exhibition “St. Petersburg Technical Fair” held in St. Petersburg on 15—17 March 2011 the pilot project was awarded with II degree diploma and a silver medal in category “New hi tech pilot projects of equipment development and high-end technologies”.

Time of line delivery is 9 months. The Cost is subject to programming technique of welding robot.
