AT THE SHIPYARDS SHIP DESIGN

Kulikov N. V., Sazonov K. E. Potential application of pusher-barge trains for transit navigation along the Northern Passage
The authors consider the possibility of establishing an effective round-the-year transit sea system along the Northern Passage based on the use of pusher-barge trains. Investigations of ice propulsion qualities, controllability and strerglh for such pusher-trains were carried out based on model basin tests in Krylov Shipbuilding Research Institute

Soldatov Yu. I., Podstreshnyi K. P. Concept of classification of offshore structures, ships and watercraft in oil and gas production fleet
An analysis is given of the article by V. I. Pankov published in issue No. 6 of journal "Sudostroenie" in 1999 concerning a proposed classification of ships and watercraft of oil and gas production fleet. It is pointed out that this system of classification fails to solve the main problem of relating offshore structures, ships an watercraft to specific classes and types. It is proposed to base this classification on functions of technical facilities.

Ganov E. V., Matskevich V. D., Sokolov V. F. Ferroconcrete shipbuilding: its history and outlook
The paper describes the history of creation of ships with ferroconcrete hulls, features of the design and methods of fabrication of hull structures. The economics of construction and outlook for operation of such ships are considered.

NAVAL SHIPBUILDING

A. Yu. Karandashov, B. V. Nikiforov, D. Yu. Shishkin, A. V. Yurin Development of electric protection of diesel-electric submarines
Problems of the development of electric power systems and their protection for diesel-electric submarines are analysed. The authors propose a solution of the most serious problem of all submarine electric power systems, that is short-circuit protection. Application results are given for the latest methods and devices of short-circuit protection aboard modern and perspective submarine designs developed by Central Marine Technology Design Bureau "Rubin".

Indeitsev A. I., Sergeev A. G. Combat ruggedness requirements for a general-purpose ship of the 21st century
A very important capability of a warship is considered - its combat ruggedness. A close relationship between a warship's combat capabilities and combat ruggedness parameters is presented. These parameters require a balanced approach to the choice of protective means to provide ship's survivability before and after some damage is afflicted.

SHIPBOARD POWER PLANTS

Petrov E. L. PATES - a high-efficiency dual use technology of marine engineering
The paper considers the problems of dual use of high-tech marine engineering technology for construction of underground nuclear power stations.

Chernov S. E. Performance evaluation procedure for silicone torsional dampers of marine diesel-engines
A performance evaluation procedure is given for silicone torsional dampers of marine diesel- engines which is based on comparing actual stresses in engine crankshaft at a current damper condition with those complying with the Register Rules. A computational assessment of the silicone damper service life is given which makes it possible to determine its residual life and time to next survey.

SHIP SYSTEMS

Ibragimov N. Yu., Osmanov V. O. Operating experience with vitrified piping aboard ships of Kaspian Shipping Company
The results of 6 years application of vitrified steel pipelines in ships are discussed. The economic benefits from application of vitrified ship piping systems are discussed.

MARINE ELECTRICAL AND RADIO EQUIPMENT

Pashkevich L. A., Yakovlev A. F. Algorithm for automatic selection of ship aerials of metric and decimetric wave bands
An algorithm is given for the selection of the most efficient aerials in metric-decimetric wave bands to be implemented in automated shipboard communication systems. Calculation results for a typical ship show that application of the proposed algorithm increases a number of communication channels by about 30%.

MARINE INSTRUMENTS

Dmitriev S. P., Kolesov N. N., Osipov A. V. Synthesis of safe passing trajectories, using artificial intelligence methods
The problem of determining safe passing trajectories is considered. The choice of the trajectory is based on safety measures which involve avoidance of ship collision with passing ship and navigational hazards. Possible manoeuvers of the passing ships are predicted by the multiagent systems.

SHIPBUILDING AND MARINE ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIES

Alexandrov V. L., Matlakh A. P., Polyakov V. I. Vibration control in ships in modern ship production
The authors analyse basic aspects of reducing vibration in tanker living quarters based on integrated virtual and full-scale frequency tests of ship superstructure components. The paper discusses the results of application of the newly developed vibration-proof technology aboard series tankers built by SUE "Admiralty Shipyards"

V. V. Makarov, D. V. Mansurov, F. V. Cherepenin, O. S. Kuklin Method for determination of two-dimensional coordinates of stereo pairs for stereophotogrammetric control of ship structural configurations
The authors propose a method for configuration control of ship hull structures and their elements of double curvature. High labour costs of processing measurement results is the main obstacle obstacle for wide application of the stereophotogrammetric method in ship production. The paper proposes ways of creating an information measuring system based on application of less expensive video tape recorders used in domestic industry Shungin V. Yu. Application of local rotary bending for shell plate forming The paper presents results of practical implementation of CRIST-developed shell plate forming techniques for small ships, using machine MGPS-25. The implementation results confirm analytical investigations and demonstrate a potential for substantial eco-nomic savings and reduced time of personnel training.
