AT THE SHIPYARDS

SHIP DESIGN

Geltman G. A., Georgievskaya E. R., Dubrovsky V. A. Special ships for hard-to-negotiate waterways.
For negotiating difficult waterways it is proposed to employ air propellers in circular nozzles on fast boats of up to 70t displacement and auger propellers on slow-speed boats. Types of boats for navigating on such waterways are compared.

The "Rys" type air-cushion amphibious boat.
The paper describes an efficient general-purpose transport vehicle - the "Rys" type air-cushion service-crew boat. Its main particulars and characteristics are given.

Vacuum oil spill recovery craft
The paper describes a knock-down, crewless, small-sized, non-propelled vacuum oil spill recovery craft which is designed to collect oil spills.

Selenin N. S. Ship roll stabilizer
The paper gives characteristics of an alternative design version of roll stabilizer devel-oped by the author (patent No.2056321 òæ).

NAVAL SHIPBUILDING

Shmakov R. A. At the outset of domestic nuclear submarine building.
In connection with the 40th anniversary of commissioning into Soviet Navy of the ex-perimental nuclear submarine "Leninsky Komsomol" the paper describes in detail the history of the design and construction of the first domestic nuclear submarine type 627 (K-3) and its follow-on submarine type 627A and experimental submarine type 645.

SHIPBOARD POWER PLANTS

Lakhov N. A., Pakhomov K. N., Nekhendzi E. Yu., Tarasov R. A. Investigation of stress-strain state of an element of main shipboard steam line
The authors present results of analytical and experimental investigations of stress-strain state of an element of main shipboard steam line. Investigations helped to obtain a pattern of stress and strain distribution during steam line operation in main operating conditions. Service life of steam line element has been determined.

Statsenko V. N., Sumenkov V. M., Seleznev Yu. S. The efficiency of application of water-fuel emulsions in marine boilers
The authors present results of experimental investigation of the process of burning water-fuel emulsions based on heavy masut and experimental high-viscosity fuel. Data have been obtained on distribution of temperatures and parameters of chemical and mechanical incomplete burning in combustion chamber in varions operating conditions. The investigation results have been used in the design of fuel conditioning systems for marine boilers.

ELECTRICAL AND RADIO EQUIPMENT

Blagutin S. B., Adashev V. S. Zonal wiring technology for ships
The authors consider the main provisions of zonal wiring technology for ships and prin-ciples of ship breakdown into outfitting zones. Calculation procedures are given for some parameters presented in the block diagram, which serve as a scientific basis for the development of schedules of wiring and adjustment-delivery work aboard ship.

Yakovlev A. F. Approximate calculation of a directional pattern of VHF-UHF aeri-als located adjacent to ship superstructures
Simple empirical equations are presented for calculation of directional patterns in a horizontal plane of vertical VHF-UHF dipoles located adjacent to conductive cylindrical structures of ship superstructures.

Tuganov M. S., Petrov G. P., Romadanov M. V., Koshelev A. V., Silberman A. A. Starting an asynchronos motor by switching parallel stator windings
The authors consider the feasibility and efficiency of starting a powerful asynchronous motor in self-contained marine electrical systems by switching its windings. Areas of practical opplication of this starting method are determined and a start-up arrangement is proposed.

MARINE INSTRUMENTS

Startsev S. B., Startsev B. A. A new design of dynamic pressure log
The authors present results of experimental investigations of a new design of dynamic pressure log in which a sensing element is represented by a special damper installed across the flow in the through channel.

INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING AND ECONOMICS

Logachev S. I. On the need of state support for Russian shipbuilding
The existing situation in domestic shipbuilding is analysed and the need of state sup-porf for Russian civilian shipbuilding is grounded. The main provisions of the existing bill are highlighted.

SHIPBUILDING AND MARINE ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

Gutkin Yu. M. The "mystery" of old dry docks
The paper deals with the problem of stability of dry docks constructed in the late 19 -early 20th century.

Baranov E. V., Bulatov A. S., Syasko V. A. Ultrasonic testing of threaded joint tightening
The authors consider the fundamentals of ultrasonic testing of threaded joinf tightening. The paper presents the design and characteristics of device "Adapt PC-1" developed in CRIST which is used to measure parameters of threaded joint tightening. A proce-dure of application of this device is also given.

Kapustin O. E. On the safety of acetylene handling and gas welding operations
The author considers equipment used in shiprepair yards for gas welding operations with the use of acetylene. Recommendations are given on fire safety at acetylene filling stations and for the observance of respective standards and regulations.
