The workshop “Laser technologies in shipbuilding” was hold on 12 April 2010 in JSC SSTC.

The workshop “Laser technologies in shipbuilding” was hold on 12 April 2010 in JSC SSTC, more than 70 specialists from large shipbuilding enterprises from different regions of Russia have visited it, also representatives from IMG GmbH, Saint Petersburg State Polytechnic University, Central R&D Institute for Robotics and Technical Cybernetics, Berlin University took part in this workshop.

The workshop was hold under scientific management of, Academician J.S. Vasilyev, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, President of Saint Petersburg State Polytechnic University.

In the opening speech, Mr. V.D. Gorbach, Doctor of Engineering Science, Director General of JSC SSTC gave estimation of shipbuilding development perspectives in Russia.

Following reports were listened to:

• “Perspectives of laser technologies application in shipbuildimg” – Professor G.A. Turichin, Doctor of Engineering Science, Director of Institute of Welding and Laser Technologies

• “Breakthrough technologies of laser and hybrid arc augmented laser welding in shipbuilding. Goals, plans and near-term prospects” – Professor I.V. Suzdalev, Doctor of Engineering Science, head of laboratory of JSC SSTC.

• “Application of hybrid laser welding in shipbuilding using high performance fiber lasers” – Doctor Zaifert, R&D manager of IMG GmbH. • “MAG welding power supply sources and welding consumables, used in hybrid arc augmented la-ser welding” – Professor M.V. Karasev, Doctor of Engineering Science, Director General of CJSC scientific-production firm “ITS”.

• “Laser technologies development and application experience in the Berlin University” – Doctor H. Kon, F&E Technologiebroker Bremen GmbH In frames of workshop technical excursion to Laser and Russian-German Welding Technologies Center was carried out, in this Center different laser technological complex were demonstrated to workshop participants. During the workshop, specialists from Russian and foreign firms brought in the focus actuality of appli-cation of laser technologies in shipbuilding, as well as necessity for further development in areas:

• Hybrid laser-arc welding of abutting joints of flat sections strip panels;

• Hybrid laser-arc welding of angle joints of flat and archy sections;

• Laser and hybrid-arc welding of tubes, welding of tubes with tube plates;

• Overlay laser welding of layers with special features on components of friction assemblies and fixtures locking groups;

• 2D and 3D laser cutting of sheet materials and pipes.
