JSC "SSTC" complited tests of shielding container gor carriage of spent fuel of nuclear submarines.

On January 20, 2011, JSC "Shipbuilding and Shiprepair Technology Center" completed trials of shielding container for carriage of spent fuel of 1st generation nuclear submarines. Spent fuel is being stored on premises of former technical base of Russian Navy in Murmansk region, which is currently under the supervision of FSUE "Sev RAO" of Public corporation "Rosatom".

Shielding container was manufactured in JSC "SSTC"with use of modern technologies and at the present days it is a key element in carriage of spent fuel from coastal technical base facilities to special fuel reprocessing enterprise - PA "Mayak" (Chelyabinsk Region)

All works are being performed as part of International project for Technical Assistance, which France provides to Russian Federation as part of Multirateral Agreement for Nuclear Ecological Programs. General work management from Russian side is performed by RSC "Kurchatovsky Institute", Moscow.

Work results were approved by delegation of experts from company "AREVA-TA" and Commissariat for Nuclear Energy and Alternative Energy Sources of France under guidance of Mr. Lusien Pilette-Cousienne.

After signing of trials protocols, the container will be transferred to FSUE "SevRAO" for further exploitation on objects belonging to Public Corporation "Rosatom".

Execution of works for removal of spent fuel with use of container will significantly decrease the potential threat for people and environment in North-Western region of Russian Federation.
