The vessel Argus

The pilot vessel Bryansk was built at Vyborg shipyard and delivered to port authorities of oil terminal in Primorsk city (Leningrad region) in 2003. Specification of the ship is described in Sudostroyenie magazine, No.5, 2002.

Main modification of the second vessel are the following:

  • Tanks area is less by four frame stations, whether engine room is extended by three frame stations and bow pump section is extended by one frame station accordingly;
  • Wheel house is extended by five frame stations;
  • Number of tanks is eight against six on the pilot vessel;
  • Water heating boiler is replaced with a steam one.

This vessel is different from the pilot one with a system installed upon request of the customer and intended for onboard treatment of oil-containing bilge water, dividing it to oil and water fractions. It allows separating fuel from the bilge water, which can be used by vessel itself or transferred to on-shore consumers.

Technology for separation of bilge water is the following:

  • Receipt of oil-containing water;
  • Three-stage settling of oil-containing water in two lines (three tanks in each) with pumping from one tank to another with two pumps (one of them is a reserve one);
  • Pumping of oil sediment from each bilge tank to oil sediment tank with two pumps (one of them is a reserve one);
  • After oil settling the water is pumped outboard through two separators and two ion-exchange filters (one in each line). The separators can work both in parallel and sequentially;
  • Pumping of water outboard in areas where it is permitted or to on-shore treatment facilities with two pumps (one of them is a reserve one).

Technical design for modernization of the vessel under the assignment of Vostochny prt Authorities was developed by FSUE CRIST/DB Vostok under supervision of Chief Designer S.S. Nikitenkov. Working documents were prepared at Vyborg Shipyard with technical supervision from DB Vostok .

Building contract was signed in August, 2004. Technical design was completed in November, 2003 and working documents were ready in May, 2004..

Building stages: laying in March 2004, launching in October 2004 and sea trials in February 2005. Building was supervised by Chief Constructor V.V. Goryaynov.

It is necessary to notice, that loft and technological documents were developed with use of upgraded version of CAD system “Ritm-Sudno”. Specialists from the CRIST trained yard specialists in the process of building the lay-down section. Assembly of all sections, apart from the aft end, was carried out without using support beds.

Supervision of the construction process was carried out without appointment of design representatives at the yard. All design issued, arisen during construction process, including upgrading the project in accordance with proposals, given by yard specialists, were resolved by yard personnel, leaded by Deputy Chief Engineer A. F. Igumnov, Deputy Chief Designer A. A. Zakharyantz, Senior Designer V. P. Lvov and mechanical Engineer N. I. Kulygin in close cooperation with vessel designers (administration and designer from DB “Vostok”: S.S. Nikitenkov, G.K. Muranov, K.N. Orlov, specialists from Vyborg Shipyard: S.A. Yerokhin, N.P Konopvalov, and others) and representatives of the Customer (administration and specialists from technical and environmental divisions of Eastern  Branch of FSUE Rosmoport: V.A. Farina, E.G. Giritch, V.G. Mokrenok, A.A. Kiselev and others).

The vessel fully meets the requirements stated in Customer’s technical assignment and is delivered and accepted without any significant observations.
