AT THE SHIPYARDS

SHIP DESIGN

Shlyakhtenko A. V. CMDB "Almaz" is 50 years old
The paper describes the main stages of activities of CMSB "Almaz" during 50 years of its existence, the main completed projects and project leaders are cited.

Gavrilov V. G. "Novik" - successor of the legend
A brief information is presented on multimission patrol ship "Novik" and prospects for construction of corvettes to domestic designs developed by CMDB "Almaz".

Ivchenko A. L. "Almaz" - designed ships guarding the sea frontiers
The paper deals with work of CMDB"Almaz" in the design of ships for Coast Guard, as well as prospects of the development of new ships from 10 to 2000 dwt within the framework of approved concept of all-round protection of sea frontier and economic zone.

Gorodyanko A. A. At the outset of domestic boat building
A story of setting up modern design and production facilities at Zolotov shipyard in Saint-Petersburg for the building of combat ships for Coast Guard.

Design and construction of guided-missile boats during the post-war period
Features of the design and tests of the world's first guided-missile boats of type 183P, 205 and others are described.

Abramovsky V. A. Landing ships: from "Skat" to "Zubr"
The paper describes stages of the design in CMDB "Almaz" and construction of air-cushion landing ships, including the world's largest "Zubr" landing ship

Korolkov V. I. "Bora" and "Samum": attack ships of skeg type - Russia's priority
Features of skeg-type air-cushion ships "Bora" and "Samum" are considered. These fast ships of type 1239 employ a new hydrodynamic platform involving catamaran with aerostatic negative pressure.

Kuzenkov A. Winged "Uragan"
The paper describes the development and service experience with small missile-guided ship of type 1240 ("Uragan"). The ship is equipped with deeply-submerged automatically-controlled hydrofoils.

Aframeev E. A. Conceptual experiment: combination of a fast boat and submarine
The paper describes an attempt to develop a drastically new type of ship: a small submerging missile-carrier combining contradictory properties of a submarine and a fast hydrofoil ship.

SHIPBOARD SYSTEM AND DEVICES

Silman M. A. "Compressor" plant - to Russian Navy
Contribution of "Compressor" plant in Moscow into naval shipbuilding: the 130th anniversary of outfitting of surface warships and submarines with refrigerating equipment and air-conditioning systems of non-traditional design and layout.

Nikiforov B. V., Rusin A. I., Skachkov Yu. V. Russian storage batteries of new generation for DES
The ways to increase service life of storage batteries are discussed. An analysis is made of the main design solutions aimed at reduction of gassing and raising of energy potential. Results of new storage batteries testing are given, as well as comparison of their main characteristics with those of existing batteries. It is shown that the use of such advanced batteries guarantees higher technical characteristics of diesel-electric submarines.

Kasatov V. A., Romanovsky V. V. Electrical propulsion systems for main types of vessels
Data are given on most promising systems of electrical propulsion for icebreakers and ice navigation vessels, including power installations with coaxial contra- rotating propellers driven by a propulsion motor in special design version or with screw-rudders. Issues of electrical propulsion application in ferries and tankers are discussed, characteristics of various types of powerplants employed aboard sea- going vessels are compared.

Kylyaev O. P., Sakharov V. I. Improved design of shipboard fuel tank
A description is offered of a shipboard fuel tank with a device preventing a repeated contamination of fuel with sediments in the course of operation.

MARINE INSTRUMENTS

Yanovsky A. I., Chernyavets V. V. Problem "Year 2000" for shipboard systems
The authors discuss the problem of transition into the next millenium for various data computing systems, including navigation systems. Possible errors connected with "Year 2000" problem are analyzed. Recommendations are given for system testing and methods of elimination of errors caused by incorrect date presentation in computing systems.

INDUSTRIAL ENGINNERING AND ECONOMICS IN SHIPBUILDING

Koledova T. A., Yakusheva D. A. International practice of shipbuilding support
Reviewed by the authors are methods and forms of state support for merchant shipbuilding in various countries aimed to improve the competitive ability of national shipyards at the international markets.

SHIPBUILDING AND MARINE ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIES

Gorynin I. V., Legostaev Yu. L., Malyshevsky V. A. Structural materials for development of hydrocarbon deposits on the Arctic shelf
Measures are suggested for development and introduction of new structural materials for floating engineering objects and other technical solutions promoting exploitation of hydrocarbon deposits on the Russian continental shelf, helping to increase the service life of the engineering facilities operating in ice conditions.

Grishchenko L. V., Sharapov N. G., Bishokov R. V. Development and implementation in shipbuilding of small-diameter flux-cored wire for welding of low-alloy steels
The authors present a brief review of development and application in Russia and other countries of small-diameter flux-cored wire. Characteristics of Russian low-alloy flux-cored wire 48рр-8о are compared with foreign analogs.

Nikolaev G. I., Panfilov N. A. Polymer composite materials for application in shipbuilding
Review of properties of structural (polyester) and special glass-reinforced plastics used in shipbuilding.

Ushkov S. S., Kudryavtsev A. S., Karasev E. Use of titanium and light alloys in shipbuilding
The authors describe the part played by CRI SM "Prometei" in setting-up of metallurgical production of titanium and its application in shipbuilding, which was one of the most important directions of the Institute's activities during the 60 years of its existence. Unique properties of titanium and its alloys must ensure engineering progress in a number of technical industries in the 21st century.
